I deliberately waited a while before picking this game up because a lot of people were complaining that it was incredibly buggy at launch. Now that I have it almost a full year later, I can honestly say that it worked very well for me and I was able to play all the way through the main campaign without a hitch. 4 player co-op also seemed to work well once we got the Uplay friending system wrangled under control (two of us had to empty our friends lists in Uplay and then put them back in while in game before it would properly detect if users were online or not; it's a well documented issue with Uplay itself). The campaign had a nice length to it, and the difficulty levels not only increased the AI's prowess, but also introduced additional requirements to some of the missions (like do it all without being detected, don't let the robot take any damage, etc.). We had a good time planning out our attacks with the new coordinated shot mechanic, and the magnetic visor was surprisingly helpful. All in all, we had a good time with this game.I did not spend a whole lot of time with the competitive multiplayer, but what I did experience felt like a standard fare offering. It wasn't technically deficient. It just didn't seem like anything especially noteworthy. My chief complaint is actually with the Uplay system itself and how it handles patching. After installing the game for the first time, Uplay told me that I needed to install a patch. Ok. Great. Fine. I let it run the autopatcher. Following the patch, the game launched and told me that I wasn't up to date, so I couldn't play online. So I exited out and relaunched the game. Another patch started to download, install, and then launch the game again to the same error message. I wound up doing this process 6 times! In this digital age, I just don't understand why they can't incorporate multiple patches into one. Also, do not try to manually download the patches. Just let the autopatcher do its thing. One friend of mine tried to go the manual install route and wound up regretting it when one patch CRC errored out on him and forced him to reinstall from scratch. The bottom line: It's worth it for the story campaign, especially if you have 3 other friends to join you. It's not worth it if you're interested in it solely based on the competitive multiplayer. It should be $20 or less by this point, making it that much easier to get into.So far this game has been enjoyable. I have been playing through the campaign and doing some Guerrilla Mode. Both have been enjoyable. You really feel like you are a squad of highly trained individuals. I'll get to the multiplayer in a bit. The graphics are good nothing extraordinary but definitely good.Campaign: I haven't played very far because I'm waiting for a friend to get it so we can do coop through it but it has been great so far. It is immersive and the guns sound fantastic. I have thoroughly enjoyed the suppression feature that happens when someone shoots at you with a heavy gun. The screen gets blurry and bits of the wall are flying off. Its pretty intense. You are given an array of gadgets which become available to you throughout the campaign. The campaign does a good job introducing each one. If they threw them all at you at the same time it would be a bit overwhelming. I look forward to playing more.Multiplayer: I have really been looking forward to the multiplayer aspect of this game. So I fire it up and jump right into a match with no problem. I was thinking, "Great! Ubisoft got the matchmaking right for once." After about 3 minutes of playing the screen goes black. Then a message shows up and it says "You have lost connection with the host" and it sends you right back to the main menu. This has happened every game since then. I have finished only one game and joined about 20-30 matches. If you Google "lost connection with host ghost recon" it will bring up a lot of results which shows that this is a common problem. This is extremely disappointing and I wont be playing any multiplayer until another patch comes out. (So far there have already been two patches.)Coop: I'm sure most of you know this by now but the coop has no matchmaking support. You either can play with friends in real life or people you have met in multiplayer matches. You can't just search for a match. I hope this is something they add in the future but to be honest if you don't know the person you are playing with where is the fun in coop.Another thing I want to cover is at times the controls seem very clunky. Like you can't get your guy to do what you want him to. At times it feels like it was made for the console and PC came secondary. I know most of the time this is the case.Overall its an interesting change of pace to other shooters. Hopefully Ubisoft will patch soon.
